Why AC Installation Is a Different Job Than Repair
Fixing a dying capacitor is a two-hour visit. Installing a system from scratch or replacing one that was never right to begin with, is a different kind of work, and it’s where a lot of AC complaints in this area actually start. Ductwork evaluation.
If your home already has ductwork from a forced-air furnace, in a lot of cases it can be adapted for cooling with a new coil and line set. If it wasn’t designed with cooling in mind, duct sizing sometimes needs adjusting so the same air handler that pushes heat in January can pull humidity out in July without one room turning into a cold spot while another stays warm.
No existing ductwork? That’s a different conversation, not a dead end.
Plenty of older Rome homes, especially ones heated by a boiler and radiators, have never had any ductwork at all. Cutting new duct chases through finished walls and ceilings is invasive and expensive.
